History of the Photo Booth

THE CLASSIC PHOTO BOOTH

How the "mini" dark room process works

We have explained that the classic photo booth uses a film and developing process.

Below, you will find photos of each part of the classic photo booth along with diagrams and

explanations about what each part does! (Doesn't it look a lot more complicated than you imagined?)

You can think of the classic photo booth as a miniature darkroom, but with all the new age technology- smartphones, wi-fi, touch screens, printers, voice recognition, digital cameras and so on; the idea of, "developing," pictures (as opposed to printing), and the use of, "film," is unheard of in todays era,

... DO YOUR RESEARCH WHEN CHOOSING THE RIGHT PHOTO BOOTH AND COMPANY TO RENT A PHOTOBOOTH FROM!  ...

Compare the pictures below to photos from different companie's photo booths who advertise photo booth rentals. The outside booth can be replicated very easily BUT the inside of EVERY classic photo booth looks similar. If the photos from a different company do not match the photos below, then you are NOT getting a classic photo booth.. But rather... a makeshift digital - or pipe and drape replica instead.

We also offer service contracts for photo booths that you can purchase - no matter whether the photo booth

was obtained from us or a third party. We can get that old photo booth you have either in

storage or hiding in the basement of your restaurant working like new!

Contact Classic Photo Booth today if you have any other questions!

  • This is a picture of one of our classic photo booth outer body. The Body is made of interconnecting wooden walls and metal plates
  • The wooden frame is primarily what makes the classic photo booth weight about 900 pounds
  • The parts inside the photo booth are located behind a door, on the left side of the photo booth, and comprise about 200 pounds of the photo booth.

  •  As you enter the photo booth, you will see a stool that may be adjusted higher or lower depending on the height of the person taking the photograph.
  • Behind the stool you see the white background. That can be covered by either a red or blue curtains (already affixed to the photo booth) to create a different color.
  • The second curtain closes the photo booth visability to create privacy.
  • We consistently have anywhere anywhere between one to five/six people taking a photo in this area at one time.

  • While your seated inside the photo booth getting ready for a picture, this door is what you will be looking at.
  • Here's a quick breakdown of the most important photo booth features seen here;
    • The glass square in the middle of the door is what you will be focusing on while you are taking the picture. Behind he class is a camera (which isn't apparently visible) but we suggest that you see your reflection in the glass reflection to pose yourself in between shots and guage how the picture will turn out.
    • The green circle that says "start" starts the photo booth process. The photo booth takes FOUR difference poses with a few seconds in between poses.
    • The arrow to the left of the glass indicates where, "eye-level." This is only relevant when one person takes a photo as this machine was previously used for passport photos. We suggest that you see your reflection in the glass rather than seat perfectly eye level.
    • The lit up area on the top of the glass and the start button is the flashbox. The classic photo booth has three flashes to ensure that the photo quality is clear enough.
  • Our attendants let you know that the start button starts the process and let the guests know where to look if they do not already know this information!

  • This is our "Miniature dark room." This image is what you see when you open the door seen in the previous diagram.
  • The next few diagrams will explain each of the parts and what each part does in detail.

  • This diagram shows the parts that develop the photo booth photo. We will go through each part from top to bottom and breifly explain how each part participates in the photo development process.
    • AP-10- this blue box powers the entire machine and sends the right amount of electricity to each part of the photo booth in order to make it run properly.
    • Film- film is in black canister you see. When you push the start button the film gets fed through the camera and the photo development process begins.
    • Camera- the camera uses prism and light reflection to capture your image on film. As each picture is taken the light bounces your image through the prism and onto the film! After your 4 pictures are taken, the film gets fed down into the spider to be developed.
    • Spider- the spider opens a carrier (a metal device that carries the photo strip) and the film is fed into it.
    • Tanks- the tanks are filled with different photo developing chemicals that the photo strip is dunked into.
    • Delivery unit- once the photo strip goes through each developing tank it is then rolled out of the photo booth into the drying unit seen on the middle left side of the photo booth.
  • See the next diagram for more indepth information on the development processes.
  • Here is an indepth look at the tanks; there are 12 tanks in the photo booth. The film strip must get dipped into 11 tanks to fully develop. The twelth tank located directly to the left of the first green tank is only there to clean the spider before it grabs another picture from the camera.
  • The color tanks contain certain chemicals that are needed to develop.
  • The white tanks contain water to wash the photo strip off and get it ready for the next photo chemical.
  • The following is a breakdown of the contents of each tank in the development process;
    • The GREEN tanks contain developer and are the first tank the strip

dips into to start the developing process.

    • The RED tank contains bleach.

      The YELLOW tanks contain fixer.
    • The 9th tank contains TONER and is only used when there is Black and white photos. Color photos are not toned and thereby that tank is filled with water.

  • These images show you how the spider dips the film strip into each tank.
  • The open carrier (it has the reddish film strip in it) is dipping the strip into each of the tanks. Since the carrier just dipped into the RED bleach tank, it has a reddish hint to it. That will get washed off in the next two tanks and then it will dip into the devloper.
  • After 3 minutes is up, your photo gets delivered through the delivery unit.
  • The white hair dryer dries the photo after it is delivered. The dryer is set to turn on for 10 seconds to dry the water off the developed photo.

AND THAT IS ALL, the photo is done and delivered to

your hands at this point.
